Patience & German Pancakes

This morning, we made German pancakes.  We've made Swedish pancakes and Jenny's banana cakes, so today we're making German pancakes.

You just beat three eggs, flour and milk.  Then bake in a buttered pan.  The only problem is, they take awhile to bake.  So you have to wait.

And wait.

And wait...for breakfast.  This is not easy when you're a one-year-old who wants breakfast NOW.  Is there an easy way to teach kids patience?  Or just make them wait (and almost wake dad up in the process)?

And then, when it's finally done, you have to wait while mommy takes a picture of your food for her blog.  And adds applesauce (a healthy alternative to syrup or powdered sugar, which are also good).  Mom tried hers with applesauce too, and dad had his with peanut butter and syrup.

And then, you can finally eat!  "What is it?" she says.  This is her favorite phrase, along with "what's that??"  She liked it!  She almost ate half of one!

German Pancakes (from my mom's awesome cookbook, Good For You)

2-3 eggs, beaten
1/2 c four
1/2 c milk
1/8 t salt
1 T butter
1 apple sliced (optional)

Heat oven to 400.  Place glass pie pan in oven.  Meanwhile beat eggs, flour, milk, and salt one minute.  Remove hot pan and add butter, then place back in oven so butter can melt.  Arrange apple sliced on bottom of pan, pout batter over the top.  Sprinkle with cinnamon and back until puffy and brown, about 20 minutes.  Serve immediately.  Serves 1-2 people.

{Oh, I finally made it to Ikea to get the KALAS kids' silverware.  Except they were out of stock.  So I got the plates and bowls instead.

They have been quite handy. And at $1.99 for the set, I would say we got a deal}
