Saying Goodbye

This post was written on Thursday...sorry it's a little late!

We just finished packing up all of our stuff into a giant moving truck (thanks so much to Eric, Jon, Zac, & Josh). It's hard to believe we're really doing it; we're moving!

A few people have asked me if I'm sad to leave our house. I have to stop and think about it. Sad? Not really. I think I am too excited to be sad. Although our house does have a lot of great memories.

It's the first home we've ever owned. We created memories that will stick with me, like having countless friends over for dinner. Having our parents and siblings stay with us. Hosting small group and worshiping together with the windows open (for some reason I will always remember that night). Leaving for the summer to live in the Philippines (thanks to Zac & Traci for housesitting while we were away). Starting my business in our front office. Making the office into a nursery. And my favorite memory, bringing Callie home from the hospital to her first home.

All of this talk about homes reminds me of the fact that this home is temporal, as well as our next home. As fun and exciting as it is to paint, decorate, and plan, these homes will not last forever. Most importantly, we have an eternal home in heaven.

Looking around, I've realized that we put a little bit of work into this house! One of our first projects was a tile back splash. I saw this tile in a display at IKEA (the tile was from The Tile Shop, not Ikea). My parents were so nice to come up and help us with it. It took a whole weekend. It was a lot of work, but I think it added a lot to the kitchen.

This was a fun and easy project -- painting the front door black.

And my favorite project of all, wood floors. Thanks to my parents-in-law that came to help us with this! It was a ton of work; moving the appliances out of the kitchen, measuring and cutting each piece. But well, well worth it! Too bad we couldn't enjoy them for longer! Kyle picked out the floors from Home Depot.

An easy project, we added hardware to our cabinets (purchased from Pottery Barn, but they no longer well them). I love the look of cup pulls. I think I will probably also do this in our new house.

These bamboo shades were fun. We bought them at Target. Too bad I have to leave them with the house!

Of course I just had to update our light bulb fixtures with something a little more stylish!

Okay, so I went a little crazy with the chair rail and panel molding. I just love white molding. The more the better (to a certain extent I guess).

And some new faucets and towel bars in the bathrooms. Look close and you can see me in my green sweatshirt. :) But don't look too close because you will see that they are a little dirty!

This post was fun to write because now I can remember bits and pieces of our old house, and the work we put into it. Nothing major, just little things here and there.

Okay, just an update to let you know that we've moved in our new place! Thank you soooo much to our friends and family for all of the help -- Ben, Dan, Todd, Ryan, Matt, Kiley, Elyse, Annie, Brian, and Debbie!!! We couldn't have done it without you.
