First of all, Ren, Dude [their dog], and I are okay...no injuries. Friday morning at one a.m. I awoke to a big boom (sounded like a bomb). Ren was awake and came running into the bedroom saying, "I don't know what happened but it's something bad...we gotta go!" We ran downstairs to discover that the garage was engulfed in flames. I grabbed the dog and we ran outside and watched our house burn to the ground before the fire department even got there. We still don't know what caused the fire, but something in our garage blew up. We lost everything, guys...EVERYTHING. I didn't even have shoes...just shorts and a tank top. The insurance company has been wonderful and have put us up in a hotel and have already found us an awesome townhouse to move into while our house is being rebuilt. (You can see pictures at Kare11.com if they're still up...search Farmington fire) Once we move to our more permanent location I will send our new contact information, but for now e-mail is best as my aunt has borrowed me her laptop.
We are being taken care of, and the Lord has protected us and provided for us, and we have a lot to be thankful for, especially because nobody was hurt. We just ask for your prayers in this difficult emotional time, particularly strength to deal with the rebuilding process. Also, if anyone has some extra clothes lying around that you were planning to donate anyway, we would be extremely appreciative. I would like to get back to work on Tuesday, and it's going to be awhile before I can build up any sort of workable wardrobe. I wear size 11 pants (some 9's fit), medium or large tops and size 7 1/2 or 8 shoes. Ren needs T-shirts (L to XL).
I just want everyone to be safe and make sure you get furnaces, fireplaces, etc. checked out and have an advanced plan if something like this happens, especially those with children. I don't have an update Woodcrest contact list, and I know I missed a lot of people, so please pass this public service announcement along...I always thought that this kind of thing was something that would happen to someone else. I am still in shock and keep thinking it is just one big long bad dream.
Thanks in advance for your prayers and support.
If you haven't already heard the news and if you know them, this is a copy of Kristi's e-mail from Saturday. They would appreciate everyone's prayers and support/help in this time, as they have lost everything. This really puts a whole new perspective on our earthly treasures, doesn't it? You can click here to watch the news clip.
**Update... We are in the process of collecting money to get Ren and Kristi a Target giftcard. Please contact me if you would like to contribute, and I will get you more details. **

Nealy, I'm so sorry to hear this about your friends. A good friend of mine recently had their home burn down as well. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
I have asome clothes, but how can I get them to you?
Could you tell us how we could actually get clothes to them?
If you would like to get ahold of Ren & Kristi to help them out, Kristi's e-mail address is:
kristiweiskopf@yahoo.com.
Thank you!
