Some of you may recognize this drink - and shudder! For those of you who don't know, it is the glucose drink that you need in order to get tested for gestational diabetes. I pretty much had to chug it this morning (in 5 minutes). I have heard horror stories about how gross it is. However, I have to admit, it really wasn't that bad! It came in a glass bottle, was cold and carbonated, and tasted just like Sunkist pop. I can't say I enjoyed drinking it - eating or drinking anything while sitting in the "blood lab" is pretty unappetizing - but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. After drinking it, I had to wait one hour, then they took my blood (which was the worst part). I found out my "score" within a few minutes. My glucose level was 81, phew....possible diabetes levels start at 140. What a relief -- not even close. I was a little worried, just because they say that around 8% of pregnant women develop gestational diabetes, and that there are no symptoms (so how would you know to expect it or not?). Let's just say that I would not be happy with having to prick myself with needles every day. I got a second ultrasound exam done about two weeks ago. I will post some pictures soon -- they are so cute! You can really see her face and features much better than the old ones (like the "scary" one posted below). Yep, it's confirmed that I am still having a girl! Good thing -- I didn't want to have to repaint our nursery!
Other than that, I found out this morning that the tightening/cramping in my abdomen that's been happening at night are a little something called contractions! So I thought that wouldn't happen until January! Supposedly that can be normal, as long as they don't come too often or close together.
And, I know I've promised a "belly" shot. I just keep forgetting! Hopefully I'll get one taken this weekend.

I don't mind the drink either, its not so bad. My sister had gestational diabetes with 2 of her 4 pregnancies. It didn't seem like much fun.
I get contractions all day now. Probably at least one an hour. But, these contractions feel nothing like the ones that will come in January.
What are your thoughts on an epidural, yay or nay? Just curious!
They must have given you a different amount of glucose test or run it differently than mine, because I had to get under 40. When I saw you had 81, I thought OHMYGOODNESS! Then I read it was out of 100 something, and then it wasn't bad. I scored 39 and had to be under 40. I guess a miss is as good as a mile.
