I read the following in one of my many pregnancy books, where they were just presented as "so they say." Of course, I am curious to hear if there is any truth to any of it. Fellow moms out there, feel free to leave a comment and let me know if you would say any of these things are right on, or if they are just old wives’ tales!
It's a boy if...
- When you add your age at the time of conception and the number of the month you conceived, the sum is an even number.
- The dad-to-be is packing on the sympathy weight.
- You skipped morning sickness in early pregnancy.
- Headaches are a regular occurrence.
- You’ve never looked better!
- You look like you’ve stuffed a basketball under your shirt.
- Your nose is getting wider.
- Your leg hairs are growing like weeds!
- Your areolas get a serious suntan without sun exposure.
- Your pee is Easter-egg yellow.
- You crave salty or sour foods or proteins.
- Your baby’s heart rate doesn’t exceed 140 beats per minute.
- Your tootsies are chillier than usual.
- Your hands are as dry as the desert.
- Your bump rides low.
- A ring swings back and forth when dangled from a string over your belly.
It's a girl if...
- When you add your age at the time of conception and the number of the month you conceived, the sum is an odd number.
- Your age when you conceived and the year that you conceived are both even or both odd numbers.
- Your junk is in the trunk and your hips rather than your tummy area.
- You got intimate with morning sickness during the first trimester.
- PMS is nothing compared to your pregnancy moods.
- Pregnancy doesn’t become you.
- You look like you stuffed a watermelon under your shirt.
- You look like you got a boob job.
- Your left breast could beat your right if both were in a wet tee-shirt contest where size mattered.
- Your hair turned slightly redhead.
- Your pee is a dull yellow color.
- Sweets are your craving of choice.
- Your baby’s heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute.
- Your face reminisces the breakouts of your teen years.
- You are carrying high.
- A ring swings in a circular motion when dangled from a string over your belly.

Well some of those things were right on for my pregnancy with Abbie - boob job, heart rate, major morning sickness, and the ring on a string thing apparantly worked when someone did it to me. However, even though I had a girl I still looked like I stuffed a basketball in my shirt, had lots of tension headaches and luckily didn't breakout...my skin actually got better. So as you can see, and probably will continue to see with other mom's experiences - it is different for everyone. The only thing that I have seen consistently with other women having girls is the morning sickness. We have several friends who have had, or are having girls and almost ALL of them have been pretty sick. Hopefully no matter what you are having you feel well. Glad you are having fun with your reading...isn't it exciting. It only gets better!
According to those lists, Micah would definitely have been a girl. Almost nothing about the boy list was accurate for my pregnancy, and almost everything about the girl list was.
the way you told your family is how we told my family too :) except we had to modify because my sister-in-law is also named julie. so i could just say, "julie's pregnant!" and she was infact already pregnant. so we decided to tell everyone to say: everyone say addisyns getting a cousin! and everyone just when "yay". the picture took and THEN they all went, "wait-what??" :) so it almost worked out and it's still funny. congrats again!
